Our story

Get Cyber Certified is run by Mark Kindred, our managing director and lead assessor. Mark has been certifying Cyber Essentials since 2014, the year the Government launched the scheme, and has marked assessments under every version since, up to today's Danzell question set and the NCSC's v3.3 requirements.
“I enjoy seeing companies succeed, and nowadays, to succeed, you need to be secure.”
Mark Kindred, Managing Director and lead assessor
Before Get Cyber Certified, Mark spent over 15 years running Netcom Technologies Ltd, a Sheffield-based managed service provider and mid-sized data centre serving MSPs and hosting providers across South Yorkshire, which was later sold to Aabyss. Having run the infrastructure other IT providers depended on, as well as looking after patching, user accounts and cloud services for clients, we know the pressures MSPs and in-house IT teams face, what's realistic for a small team, and where organisations most often trip up.
After selling Netcom, Mark set up Get Cyber Certified to help the MSP and IT support community improve their clients' cyber security. It's also why we built our partner programme around the model that worked for our MSP, and why we regularly support MSPs and IT providers, including teams managing Cyber Essentials for several clients.
We stay deliberately specialist. We certify Cyber Essentials and IASME Cyber Assurance, and we do them well. For Cyber Essentials Plus, we work with our partner CE+ consultants, so you get specialist technical testing without starting again with someone new.
Our assessors
Your assessment is marked by our specialist team of IASME-licensed assessors, led by Mark, our lead assessor, in line with IASME and NCSC Cyber Essentials requirements.
We deliberately keep our team small. You're given your own assessor, who gets to know you and your organisation and works with you year after year, so every renewal picks up where the last one left off.
Big enough to cope, small enough to care.

Mark lives part-time on a narrowboat, so if you speak to him while he’s working from home, ask him where he is. You might be having a floating conversation.
How we work
You choose how much help you want, and we tell you honestly which service suits you.
- Marking Only is for organisations confident they already meet every requirement. You complete the assessment, and we mark it against the NCSC requirements.
- Our Supported Service is our recommended route. A senior assessor works through a gap analysis with you, checks every answer and shows you exactly where you don't yet meet the requirements and what a compliant setup needs to do. The products and suppliers you use stay your choice; we check that what you use is compliant. We don't submit for marking until we're confident you'll pass.
For our Supported Service: 100% of applicants who have followed our advice and who have submitted within the required deadlines have passed. How we achieve this.
We work closely with your chosen contact, whether that's your office manager, your IT lead or your MSP, to help your organisation move to compliance. You get the same experienced assessor from start to finish, a clear explanation of anything that needs changing, and an honest view of your options.
What you can expect from us, in writing: response times, marking turnaround and how we handle complaints are all set out in our FAQs.
Who we work with
We certify organisations of every size and type, and we adapt how we explain things to whoever is doing the work.
| Who | How we help |
| Office managers and administrators handed the job | Plain-English guidance, step by step, with no assumed technical knowledge |
| IT managers and in-house teams | A technical peer who explains the requirement, not just the outcome |
| Directors and business owners | A clear view of cost, effort and deadline, and confidence the job is done properly |
| Sole traders and micro businesses | Proportionate advice for a small setup, without unnecessary extras |
| MSPs and IT providers | One consistent assessor across all your clients, and a partner programme built by people who've run an MSP |
We also have guidance for specific sectors: schools and education, law firms, accountants, financial services, charities and defence suppliers.
